Laura is an audio storyteller based in Detroit, Michigan. She was a 2012 SoundCloud Fellow for her project, Listen to Detroit (then called, The Detroit Mobile Audio Tour). That same year she won first place for Radio Broadcast, Feature Reporting for the Society of Professional Journalists – Detroit. In 2011 she received the Director’s Choice Award for Big Shed’s Verite +1 Contest.
Laura has been a producer at WDET’s live, two-hour daily talk show, The Craig Fahle Show. She worked as an assistant producer for WDET’s award-winning series, the Detroit-Berlin Connection and as a producer on the team that developed WDET’s video series, Crossing the Lines. Her work has aired on The Story, WDET, Interlochen Public Radio, Destination DIY, BigShed: The Audio Documentary Podcast and more. She’s contributed to audio documentaries that have aired on the BBC and RTÉ Radio in Ireland. She was trained at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in 2009. Prior to falling in love with public radio, Laura received her B.A. in Psychology at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.
In the past decade Laura has traveled to more than fifteen countries and lived in eight different cities. Exhausted from all the moving around, Laura likes to say she’s engaged to Detroit.
